Police have taken into custody an assistant professor from the zoology department of Lucknow University following allegations that he leaked examination question papers in exchange for undue favors and made inappropriate advances toward a female student.
The case was registered at the Hasanganj police station on May 15, based on a written complaint submitted by the university’s Controller of Examinations. The complaint alleges the professor engaged in obscene conversations and attempted to lure a student with promises of academic benefits.
Legal Action and Evidence
DCP Central Zone Vikrant Vir stated that the student provided audio recordings to the university administration, which were later handed over to police on a pen drive. These recordings allegedly feature the professor discussing the leaking of university examination question papers.

Police have registered an FIR under Section 74 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, concerning outraging the modesty of a woman, as well as Sections 11 and 13(5) of the Uttar Pradesh Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024.
Investigators are currently examining the authenticity of the audio clips. They are working to determine if final-year zoology examination papers were actually leaked or if there was an attempt to manipulate the examination process.
Campus Unrest and Protests
The allegations led to significant volatility on the Lucknow University campus. Student members of various organizations staged demonstrations, demanding the immediate arrest and termination of the assistant professor.

During the protests, students laid siege to the proctor’s office and held a dharna. In one incident, protesting students intercepted the professor as he arrived at the office of proctor Prof Rakesh Dwivedi, smearing black ink on his face before police and the proctorial board moved him to a locked room for protection.
The student also filed a complaint with the university’s Internal Complaint Committee (ICC), which handles the prevention of sexual harassment at workplaces. She submitted this complaint alongside representatives from the Samajwadi Chhatra Sabha (SCS) and the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).
Details of the Allegations
Three audio recordings were submitted as evidence. In one clip, the professor allegedly offers to leak question papers for core and elective subjects. Another clip involves the professor offering financial help and pressuring the student to accept favors, which she repeatedly rejected.
University spokesperson Mukul Srivastava stated that strict action would be taken if the teacher is found guilty. ICC member Anchal Srivastava and the proctorial board have assured protesters that action will follow the inquiry.
Moving forward, the professor may face further legal proceedings as the investigation into the audio clips continues. The university could also take administrative action, such as termination, depending on the findings of the internal inquiry committee.
