written by Chief Editor

Harsh Winds Alert: Netherlands Bracing for Heavy Gusts

Get ready for potentially gusty weather across the Netherlands, as Code Yellow has been issued for heavy winds starting Monday afternoon. The Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) warns that a storm system is set to move across the country from west to east, bringing winds up to 75 kilometers per hour.

In North Brabant and other regions in the Netherlands, this wind alert will be in effect from 12:00 PM until 5:00 PM. Meanwhile, wind warnings will last until 8:00 PM in Friesland and Groningen, after which the entire country is expected to return to green light status.

Offshore and in the Wadden Sea, wind gusts of up to 90 kilometers per hour are possible.

Sunday’s Code Yellow warning for ice also reminds us to remain vigilant, as slippery conditions continue due to frozen roads.

Eindhoven Airport’s Fog Woes Resurface – Flight Uncertainty Unabated

written by Chief Editor

Mist Plagues Eindhoven Airport; Flights Delayed and Diverted

Eindhoven Airport is once again grappling with mist on Saturday morning, causing delays to several scheduled flights. As of 7:45 AM local time, the airport had not reported any visible fog, but many flights scheduled for the morning have been affected. The situation of some flights remains uncertain.

"We’re dependent on the information we receive from airlines," a spokesperson for Eindhoven Airport explained. "As soon as they provide us with details about aircraft landing or diverting here, we process that on our boards. In the meantime, passengers may arrive at the airport and have to wait. Alongside security, we ensure that travelers are divided between the sections before and after security to prevent further congestion."

The spokesperson could not estimate how long it would take for the mist to clear, noting that it’s a "coffee table" issue and they prefer not to make predictions.

Flights experienced additional waiting times ranging from 30 minutes to four and a half hours. According to the airport’s website, which has been updated throughout the morning, "We’re experiencing delays due to mist. This can result in delays and/or cancellations." The site also provides real-time updates on flight arrivals and departures, indicating that several flights scheduled for around midday have been delayed.

On Friday evening, multiple aircraft were unable to land in Eindhoven, and some flights had to be diverted to other airports. Initially, it seemed the mist would not cause significant disruptions on Saturday morning, as six aircraft took off between 7:00 AM and 7:45 AM with minimal delays. However, the mist began causing issues again shortly after 8:00 AM, leading to delays and the diversion of a flight from Alicante (SPA) to Cologne (CGN) in Germany.

Passengers whose final destination is Eindhoven can contact their respective airlines for information about potential damages. Eindhoven Airport is prone to such issues more often than other airports due to its less advanced systems compared to Schiphol. However, the airport is set to receive new equipment around its runways by 2027, which will enable safe flying even in dense mist.

Eindhoven Airport Struggles with Persistent Fog, Traffic Code Yellow Remains

Mist Hinders Flights at Eindhoven Airport; Expect Delays, Cancellations, and Diversions

Eindhoven Airport is grappling with mist once again, with most flights scheduled after 7:45 AM experiencing delays. The additional waiting time varies from 30 minutes to four and a half hours. Road users are also advised to be cautious due to misty conditions, with the KNMI’s code yellow for dense fog remaining in effect until noon.

The airport announced on its website, "We are experiencing hindrance due to fog, which may lead to delays and/or cancellations." Several flights on Friday evening were unable to land in Eindhoven and had to be diverted to other airports. Some flights scheduled to depart were also cancellations. However, no passengers spent the night at the airport, a spokesperson confirmed.

Mist appeared to be less of an issue earlier this morning, with six planes departing between 7:00 AM and 7:45 AM with minimal delays. However, as the fog thickened after 8:00 AM, flights to destinations like Tirana and Fez experienced delays of up to 30 minutes. Passengers bound for Tenerife at 9:35 AM will have to wait until Saturday afternoon for their flight.

Travelers with Eindhoven as their final destination cancontact their airline for inquiries about any potential refunds or compensations.

Eindhoven Airport often faces more problems due to mist than other airports. This is because its system is less advanced than that of Schiphol. However, the airport is set to receive new equipment around its runways by 2027, allowing flights to operate even in dense fog.

The code yellow warning for dense fog, initially in effect for the entire country, now applies only to Brabant and Groningen until noon. The KNMI advises drivers to keep a safe distance from other vehicles and to turn on their mist lamps when visibility drops below 200 meters, and at the back of the vehicle when visibility is below 50 meters.

Mist is expected to return in the evening and night, but there are signs that the sun will peek through at some points during the day.
