Eindhoven Airport Struggles with Persistent Fog, Traffic Code Yellow Remains

Mist Hinders Flights at Eindhoven Airport; Expect Delays, Cancellations, and Diversions

Eindhoven Airport is grappling with mist once again, with most flights scheduled after 7:45 AM experiencing delays. The additional waiting time varies from 30 minutes to four and a half hours. Road users are also advised to be cautious due to misty conditions, with the KNMI’s code yellow for dense fog remaining in effect until noon.

The airport announced on its website, "We are experiencing hindrance due to fog, which may lead to delays and/or cancellations." Several flights on Friday evening were unable to land in Eindhoven and had to be diverted to other airports. Some flights scheduled to depart were also cancellations. However, no passengers spent the night at the airport, a spokesperson confirmed.

Mist appeared to be less of an issue earlier this morning, with six planes departing between 7:00 AM and 7:45 AM with minimal delays. However, as the fog thickened after 8:00 AM, flights to destinations like Tirana and Fez experienced delays of up to 30 minutes. Passengers bound for Tenerife at 9:35 AM will have to wait until Saturday afternoon for their flight.

Travelers with Eindhoven as their final destination cancontact their airline for inquiries about any potential refunds or compensations.

Eindhoven Airport often faces more problems due to mist than other airports. This is because its system is less advanced than that of Schiphol. However, the airport is set to receive new equipment around its runways by 2027, allowing flights to operate even in dense fog.

The code yellow warning for dense fog, initially in effect for the entire country, now applies only to Brabant and Groningen until noon. The KNMI advises drivers to keep a safe distance from other vehicles and to turn on their mist lamps when visibility drops below 200 meters, and at the back of the vehicle when visibility is below 50 meters.

Mist is expected to return in the evening and night, but there are signs that the sun will peek through at some points during the day.
