Vote counting has commenced for 21 Assembly constituencies across the districts of Vellore, Ranipet, Tirupattur, and Tiruvannamalai. The process began at 8 a.m. Across five designated centers in these regions.
Counting Process and Security Measures
The procedure began with the opening of strong rooms, conducted in the presence of candidates or their authorized representatives. According to the established protocol, postal ballots are being counted first.
Counting for votes recorded in electronic voting machines (EVMs) will only begin once the postal ballot rounds are complete. To manage the volume, 16 tables have been arranged in each constituency for every round of counting.
These security forces are stationed in and around the counting centers to ensure the integrity of the process.
High-Profile Candidates and Stakes
The region features several high-ranking officials and political figures. Senior Ministers Duraimurugan (Katpadi), E.V. Velu (Tiruvannamalai), and R. Gandhi (Ranipet) are among those awaiting results.
Also in the fray is K. Pitchandi (Kilpennathur), the Deputy Speaker of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly. Former AIADMK Ministers K.C. Veeramani (Jolarpet) and S.S. ‘Agri’ Krishnamoorthy (Kalasapakkam) are also contesting.
Political Distribution
The DMK is contesting in 17 of the 21 total Assembly seats. These include constituencies such as Jolarpet, Ambur, Arcot, Cheyyar, Vandavasi, Arani, Chengam, Gudiyatham, Vellore, and Anaicut.
Other partners in the Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA) are also competing, including the VCK in Arakkonam, Congress in Sholinghur, IUML in Vaniyambadi, and DMDK in Polur.
The AIADMK and its allies are contesting in a majority of the region’s constituencies. This alliance includes the BJP in Tiruvannamalai, PMK in Sholihgur and Polur, AMMK in Tirupattur, and TMC(M) in Ranipet.
Potential Outcomes
Depending on the final tally, the results may shift the political balance within these four districts. A strong performance by the DMK and SPA could consolidate their regional hold, while success for the AIADMK alliance may signal a shift in voter preference.
