Fire at Tesla Factory in Tilburg: 50 Workers Evacuated
TILBURG, Netherlands — A fire broke out at Tesla’s factory in Tilburg on Tuesday, leading to the evacuation of approximately 50 workers. The blaze, which started in a storage area for batteries, was quickly contained, and no injuries were reported.
Emergency services responded swiftly to the incident, which occurred around 11:00 AM local time. The fire was extinguished within an hour, with the help of multiple fire trucks and a large team of firefighters. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
Workers were seen leaving the building, located at the Ford Automotive Complex, as smoke billowed from the roof. The factory was temporarily closed, and production activities were halted. It is unclear when operations will resume.
This is not the first time Tesla has faced a fire-related incident involving its batteries. In 2018, a Model S caught fire in California, leading to a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation. Tesla has since implemented safety improvements to its vehicles.
The Tilburg factory, which opened in 2020, is Tesla’s first European Gigafactory. It produces battery packs and powertrains for electric vehicles. The company has not yet released a statement regarding the fire.
