The Royal Thai Embassy hosted the ASEAN Bazaar and Cultural Festival in Rabat on Saturday, bringing together Southeast Asian diplomatic missions as the regional bloc marked its 59th anniversary, according to event organizers. The gathering featured traditional performances, food, and cultural displays from member states including Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, the Philippines, Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar.

The festival serves as a bridge between Southeast Asian diplomatic missions and the Moroccan public, offering visitors a direct look at the region’s cultural diversity. Thailand’s Ambassador to Morocco, H.E. Fabio Chinda, noted that this is the second ASEAN Bazaar after the success last year in Morocco. According to Ambassador Chinda, a portion of the proceeds from the event will be donated to charity, mirroring the approach established during last year’s edition.
Indonesia’s Ambassador to Morocco, H.E. Yuyu Sutisna, explained that the cultural showcase followed an official ceremony commemorating the anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. Ambassador Sutisna stated that delegations prepared special Indonesian cuisines, souvenirs, music, and dance performances specifically to connect with Moroccan residents.
Strengthening Bonds Beyond Diplomacy
Malaysia’s Chargé d’Affaires ad interim in Morocco, Monty Labong Ludan, stated that the anniversary event provides an effective tool for engaging both Moroccan society and the broader international community residing in the North African nation.
Morocco continues to expand its footprint across Southeast Asia through targeted trade talks, cultural exchanges, and diplomatic visits. Earlier this month, Moroccan Secretary of State for Foreign Trade Omar Hejira traveled to Jakarta to meet with Indonesian officials and regional representatives to boost bilateral trade and investment. Additionally, Moroccan authorities received an invitation to participate in the Philippines Investment Summit scheduled for November 2026.
