Local Woman with MS Raises €8,500 for Life-Changing Suit
In a heartwarming display of community support, Beverley Brown, a Schiedam resident living with multiple sclerosis (MS) for twenty years, has raised enough funds to purchase a specialized suit, the Mollii-pak, that could significantly improve her quality of life. The suit, priced at €10,000, is now within her reach thanks to a fundraising effort led by Ina Blans of the local community center, De Erker.
Beverley, a longtime volunteer at De Erker, currently works behind the bar. In an earlier interview with us, she expressed her determination not to be sidelined by her condition. "I can’t just sit behind the geraniums," she stated firmly.
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic neurological disease that damages the protective coating of nerves in the central nervous system. This disruptions signal transmission, often leading to symptoms such as fatigue, muscle weakness, coordination problems, and tingling sensations.
Inspired by Beverley’s story, Ina Blans felt compelled to launch a fundraising campaign. She galvanized support within and beyond De Erker, confidently aiming to raise the required €10,000. By late November, the total stood at over €4,200, a figure that left Blans thrilled.
