Amsterdam – Prominent philosopher Jaïr Stranders has been crowned Language State Master 2024, the Dutch Language Union (NLU) announced today. This prestigious title, awarded annually, recognizes an individual’s exceptional contribution to the enhancement and promotion of the Dutch language.

Stranders, a renowned intellectual and professor at the University of Amsterdam, is celebrated for his profound insights and innovative approaches to philosophy, particularly focusing on language, culture, and identity. His pioneering work, including numerous influential publications, has significantly enriched the intellectual landscape of the Netherlands.

The Language State Master title, first awarded in 1993, aims to inspire and encourage the continuous development and diversity of the Dutch language. Previous laureates include poets, novelists, and linguists, making Stranders’ nomination an esteemed addition to the list.

"I am deeply honored and humbled to receive this recognition," Stranders commented. "The Dutch language is a dynamic and vibrant narrative that continuously evolves and adapts. It is a joy and responsibility to contribute to its growth and preservation."

Stranders will formally accept the award at the NLU’s upcoming Dutch Language Conference, where he will deliver a keynote speech on the intersection of philosophy, language, and society. The conference takes place on April 12th in The Hague.
