Today, Škoda is leading the Group’s car development for the Indian market, for which it is preparing specifically designed models. The first one on sale, the Kushaq city SUV, is now the second result of the India 2.0 project, a compact sedan. As expected, it will be called Škoda Slavia.
The Mladá Boleslav carmaker has officially confirmed the use of this name, which has been speculated for for many weeks. It does not refer to the eponymous Prague football club stitched, but to the complete beginnings of the manufacturer’s history. In 1896, Václav Laurin and Václav Klement began selling their bicycles under the trade name Slavia.
“Škoda has a rich international legacy for over 125 years. The name Slavia represents the beginnings of a success story in which Škoda Auto became one of the most successful carmakers. This traditional name now marks the beginning of a new era for the Škoda brand, this time in the Indian market, ”explains Zac Hollis, Head of Škoda Auto India, about the use of this name.
