Storm ‘Floriane’ Buffets Swedish Coasts; Orange Alerts Downgraded
Gale-force winds, exceeding 30 meters per second, have been reported along Sweden‘s Halland Coast, with gusts nearing hurricane strength on the Väderöarna islands. As of 6 PM local time, strong winds continue to batter several regions. According to Torbjörn Simann, meteorologist at the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI), the winds are expected to ease slightly late in the evening and become more manageable by tomorrow morning.
However, Simann warns, "Even tomorrow, there could be powerful gusts along the southern parts of Halland Coast and in Skåne."
Code-named ‘Floriane’ in France, the storm brings not only intense winds but also considerable rainfall, causing traffic disruptions across southern Sweden. SMHI, Trafikverket, and other authorities have been issuing warnings for several days.
In a positive development, all orange alerts, including those for parts of Värmland and Dalsland, were downgraded to yellow on Tuesday. While some warnings for high water levels along the west coast remain in effect, officials anticipate all alerts to be lifted by Thursday.
Simann confirms, "It’s still windy in some places, but not as intense. The remaining warnings are yellow."
