In a span of just a few hours, a powerful storm swept through Norway, leaving a trail of damage and disruptions in its wake. Speeds reached an astonishing 27 meters per second, according to meteorologist Ingrid Bentsen.

Oslo Braces for the Onslaught

Oslo residents were not spared from the wrath of the storm. Isolated instances of cars being swept off the road and containers blowing into aircraft were reported. Some roads and T-bane lines were temporarily closed due to fallen trees and power lines.

"Some trees have fallen, but it’s been quite short-lived," Bentsen commented. "The wind has since calmed down, and we expect no further major disruptions."

Storm’s Fury in Moss

Saturday afternoon, Moss bore the brunt of the storm’s fury. A large tree uprooted and crashed onto a car and two homes in Jeløya, causing significant damage. The cause of the tree’s fall remains unclear, with authorities attributing it to either wind damage or decay.

Local vaktleder, Lars-Erik Robertsen, described the scene: "We received reports of a large tree falling on a car and two houses. There are substantial damages to both the property and the vehicle."

Oslo Lufthavn: Container-In-Flight Incident

At Oslo Gardermoen Airport, a container was blown into a DHL transport plane, causing minor delays. The plane was taken for a technical inspection following the incident.

"Winds have gusted up to 37 knots, causing containers to scatter across the tarmac," confirmed operasjonsleder Ronny Samuelsen.

Though there were initial delays, Avinor communications officer Ylva Celius Trulsen assured that operations have since returned to normal. Blowing snow, however, continues to hinder ground handling activities.

Gates Shut, T-bane Disrupted

In the heart of Oslo, streets around Stortorvet and Karl Johans gate were closed as falling ice posed a safety hazard. In Skøyen, strong winds dislodged panels from a construction site, necessitating immediate closure.

Previewing the morning rush, two trees fell across T-bane lines 2 and 5, leading to temporary closures and delays, with knock-on effects on road traffic in Oslo.

The storm’s passage has left roads slick and public transport spotty, but cleanup efforts are underway as the country gears up to face another potentially stormy night.
