Actress and comedian Tiffany Haddish resolved her long-delayed Georgia criminal case on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, pleading guilty to DUI driving less safe via Zoom. The plea avoids a trial scheduled in Fayette County, closing a legal battle stemming from her January 2022 arrest in Peachtree City.
Appearing virtually in a Fayette County courtroom, the 46-year-old entertainer entered a guilty plea to one count of driving under the influence of less safe conditions, averting a trial that was scheduled to begin on Tuesday.
The resolution brings an end to a case that originated on January 14, 2022, when police responded to reports of a driver asleep behind the wheel. Officers located the vehicle near an intersection and took Haddish into custody after observing signs of impairment, according to Peachtree City police reports.
Probation Terms and Georgia Driving Restrictions
Under the terms of the plea agreement negotiated with prosecutors, all remaining traffic charges against the comedian were dismissed. The court sentenced Haddish to 12 months of probation and 24 hours in jail, with the sentence satisfied by credit for time served following her initial arrest.
Haddish must also complete 40 hours of community service, which she plans to fulfill through advocacy work with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. Additional conditions require her to complete a substance abuse evaluation and a DUI course, abstain from drugs and alcohol except for prescribed medication, and submit to periodic drug and alcohol testing.
Her driver’s license has been suspended within the state of Georgia. When informed by the court that the suspension applied strictly to Georgia, Haddish expressed immediate relief during the virtual hearing.

The path to Tuesday’s plea agreement involved prolonged legal wrangling. Defense attorneys sought to have the case dismissed entirely, filing motions in May that argued the four-year delay violated the defendant’s constitutional right to a speedy trial.
Fayette County Judge Jason B. Thompson rejected the dismissal request. The court ruled that the defense had waited too long to assert speedy-trial rights and noted that defense requests—including a motion for a delay so Haddish could attend a fashion show in Morocco—contributed to the timeline.
Atlanta defense attorney Amanda Clark noted that the initial paperwork also contributed to the protracted timeline, explaining that the formal charging document was not filed until early 2023, describing the duration as unusual for a misdemeanor traffic case.

During the virtual change of plea, Judge Thompson walked Haddish through the standard procedural questions. When asked by the judge if she required additional time to consult with her attorneys before entering the plea, the comedian offered a direct response.
