The absence does not make the heart more affectionate towards President Trump and his first Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson.

Nine months after the summary dismissal of his great diplomat by Trump, Trump on Friday added another tweet in which he described Tillerson as "stupid as a rock" and "lazy as hell".

The scathing remarks came after Tillerson, during a charity appearance in Houston, said their relationship was depressed by Trump's repeated requests for Tillerson to do illegal things.

"Very often, the president would say:" Here's what I want you to do and here's how I want you to do it, "said Tillerson at a fundraiser for the MD Anderson Cancer Center at Houston, in his first public remarks about his truncated mandate since his release in March.

"And I should tell him," Mr. President, I understand what you want to do. But you can not do it that way. It violates the law, "he said.

As if to confirm how toxic their interactions had become, Trump rented Tillerson's successor, Mike Pompeo, dismissed the abilities of Tillerson, who headed Exxon Mobil before retiring to work for Trump.

"Mike Pompeo is doing a great job, I'm very proud of him. His predecessor, Rex Tillerson, did not have the mental capacity. He was silly like a rock and I could not get rid of him fast enough. He was lazy like hell. Now, it's a brand new match, a great spirit at State! "

While at the State Department, Tillerson privately opposed many of the White House's budget cuts, but he finally made a significant reduction in the workforce, which had a negative effect on the morale of veteran diplomats.

In his remarks, Tillerson did not give any specific examples of requests that he found illegal. He said he had offered to work to change the law, but that did not seem to dispel Trump's frustration.

"I would say," Here's what we can do, "Tillerson said," We can go back to Congress and have this law changed, and if that's what you want to do, there's nothing wrong with that. "I told him," I'm ready to go up there and fight, if that's what you want to do. "

Tillerson noted that he had never met Trump before Vice President Pence invited him to the White House. At the end of his meeting with Trump, said Tillerson, he was offered the position of the country's first diplomat.

Tillerson also took a look at Twitter – it's not his use by the president, but the short attention span it has helped engender in many Americans.

Saying Trump was elected using modern tools to tap into strong emotions. He added, "I will be honest with you. It worries me that Americans seem to want so little to know about the problems that they are satisfied with 128 characters.

"I do not want this to be considered a criticism of him. This is really a concern for us as Americans and for us as a society and for ourselves as citizens. "

Tillerson was fired a few hours after returning from a trip to Africa. Although he was warned that Trump was unhappy with him, Tillerson learned of his dismissal through a tweet in which Trump congratulated his new choice for the post, Mike Pompeo, and brilliantly concluded: " Thanks to Rex Tillerson for his service! "

Tillerson could not be immediately contacted to comment on Trump's latest slam against him.
