After more than two and a half months of significant increases, tomato prices in Egypt have begun to decline noticeably in recent days.
Tomatoes are among the most important agricultural products consumed daily by millions of Egyptians, and the state is therefore keen to offer them in the markets in large quantities at prices suitable for all.

Tomato prices have fallen significantly in recent days, starting from wholesale markets, most notably the Al-Obour market, where the price per kilogram ranged between 10 and 20 Egyptian pounds, even as in retail markets it reached 25 Egyptian pounds per kilogram, with expectations of further declines in the coming days.

This comes after a period of high prices, which in many areas of the governorates exceeded 50 Egyptian pounds per kilogram, meaning that prices have now fallen by almost half, with the possibility of a latest decrease in the near future, with the continued offering of the new harvest, which automatically reduces the price.
Increased Quantities of Tomatoes on Offer
Hatem Al-Nagib, Deputy Head of the Vegetables and Fruits Division of the Chambers of Commerce, explained that the markets are currently witnessing a noticeable improvement, due to the increase in the quantities of tomatoes and various types of vegetables on offer, which has directly impacted the decline in prices compared to previous periods.

He added that current indicators suggest that this trend will continue in the coming phase, as tomato prices are expected to continue to fall to levels that may approach 15 Egyptian pounds per kilogram, coinciding with the offering of new production quantities in the markets.
He as well pointed out that the stability of the weather during this period, along with the start of harvesting seasonal agricultural crops, represent two main factors supporting this improvement, due to their clear impact on increasing supply and enhancing market stability, in addition to their role in reducing the gap between supply and demand, which positively reflects on price movements.
Increased Egyptian Tomato Production
a report issued by the Ministry of Agriculture confirmed that the areas of tomato cultivation at the republic level exceeded 367,000 acres, with a production rate of about 7.1 million tons for all harvests.
The report added that the tomato crop is one of the top ten export crops and a promising one for fresh agricultural exports, with a quantity exceeding approximately 67,000 tons in 2025, in addition to increasing the added value of this promising crop by manufacturing concentrates and dried tomatoes, which are exported in large quantities with a value exceeding 100 million dollars.
