Popular host shares snowy start to the new year, reflects on past controversies.
Article Body:
Popular Norwegian host and weather enthusiast, Tore Strømøy, is ringing in 2023 with a snowy greeting for his followers on Facebook. "Good New Snow Year, everyone!" Strømøy writes, as the first few weeks of January have brought heavy snowfall and chaotic conditions to parts of Norway, particularly in Southern regions.
The new year has thus far been marked by heavy snow, strong winds, and significant disruptions, including traffic chaos, safety alerts, closed mountain passes, and power outages. Weather experts predict that the peak of this storm will be reached Monday night into Tuesday.
Strømøy, based in Trondheim, has not been spared from the snowfall. In his weather update, he humorously notes, "We’ve seen so much snow that we’ve spotted the ‘man with the scythe’—a Norwegian folklore figure representing death. Sadly, when there’s this much snow, there’s not much a man with a scythe can do to help."
He continues, "The start of this year has been a winter wonderland for those who wished for plenty of snow. In Trøndelag, we’ve had so much snow that we’ve seen the ‘man with the scythe.’ But when it comes to clearing large amounts of snow, even he’s not much help. We had a brief respite, but then the cold set in."
Along with his weather report, Strømøy has shared some photos of snowdrifts, encouraging his followers to share their own snow pictures, to see if anyone has worse snowdrifts than his.

Past Storms
This is not the first time Strømøy has found himself in the midst of a storm. In 2023, he faced significant criticism and controversy surrounding the NRK documentary series "Ingen elsker Bamsegutt." Criticism centered on the series’ failure to mention a morality case involving the main subject. The series was eventually removed by NRK, and the director-general apologized to the affected parties. The series was also lambasted in the Norwegian Press Association (PFU).
Last fall, Strømøy announced that he and the channel had decided to part ways. This decision came after Strømøy was removed as the host of NRK’s "Godt selskap" radio program just two hours before he was scheduled to go on air. That same day, it was confirmed that Strømøy had left the station. When asked about the reasons behind the terminated collaboration, Strømøy refused to comment, stating only that he was respecting the current situation and leaving NRK to answer for the decision.
