Caught: Main Suspect in Highway Robbery of Couple
Jakarta – In a significant breakthrough, police have arrested M Ali Sanda, the prime suspect in a highway robbery involving a married couple on the Akses Tanjung Priok toll road in Jakarta Utara. Sanda has been formally named as a suspect.
"The suspect has been identified and is currently in detention at the Metro Jakarta Utara Police headquarters," revealed the head of the Jakarta Utara Metro Police, Kombes Ahmad Fuady, in an interview on Saturday, January 4, 2025.
Sanda was apprehended following an extensive investigation that also includes the hunt for other members of the gang, namely Aji, Anggi, Tedi, Amat alias Acong, and Cipuy. Police are still conducting further rozp magazines to gather more information.
Robbery During Traffic Congestion
The robbery occurred on Friday, January 3, in the afternoon as the couple was stuck in traffic. The suspects, armed with sharp weapons, targeted the couple’s vehicle. Six of the perpetrators approached the victim’s car, attempting to attack the woman.
In the chaos, the suspects managed to snatch the couple’s phone before fleeing. The victim sustained a minor injury on their finger as a result of the incident. The total estimated loss is around IDR 1.5 million. The case has been reported to the Jakarta Utara Metro Police.
In the same time period and location, the same group targeted a motorcycle rider. The assault occurred when the rider was about to exit the toll road. One of the suspects demanded money from the rider, and was shortly joined by three other accomplices armed with sharp weapons. They forcefully took the rider’s bag, which contained personal documents and vehicle data. The rider sustained a laceration on their back during the attack.
The investigation into this case is ongoing, and police are working to apprehend the remaining suspects.
