Idukki Tragedies: Two Engineering Students Lost Their Lives in Waterfall Accident
In a unfortunate incident, two engineering students from Muthotta University College of Engineering (MUCE) met their untimely demise at the Aruvikuthu Waterfalls in Idukki. The deceased have been identified as 22-year-old Kochukarottu Doonal Shahji, a third-year Computer Science student, and 18-year-old Pallikkizhakethil Aksha Reggie, a first-year Cyber Security student.
Doonal’s body was discovered on the edge of the waterfall at around 6:30 PM, after which a joint search operation was launched by the Fire and Rescue Services and local police. Aksha’s body was found approximately 50 meters below the waterfall. Students reported that they hadn’t seen them since morning, and all attempts to reach them via phone were futile. Locals later found their phones near the waterfall.
Both were wearing their clothes near the waterfall, indicating they might have gone for a swim and met with an accident. Aruvikuthu Waterfalls is known for its steep slopes and numerous cascades.
The incident comes as a grim reminder of the risks associated with waterfalls, and the importance of exercising caution while engaging in recreational activities near them.
