Driver of Truck Involved in Deadly Accident on Malang-Pandaan Toll Road Named Suspect
MALANG, KOMPAS.com – The Malang Police have named the driver of a tronton truck with license plate number S 9126 UU, Sigit Winarno, as a suspect in the fatal accident on the Malang-Pandaan toll road KM 77, which occurred on Monday (23/12). The accident resulted in the deaths of four passengers on a Tirto Agung bus with license plate number S 7607 UW.
Sigit Winarno is accused under Article 310 number 1, 2, 3, 4 of Law Number 22 of 2009 concerning Road Traffic and Land Transportation, which carries a maximum penalty of six years imprisonment.
However, Sigit has not been arrested as he is currently undergoing medical treatment at the Prima Husada Hospital in Singosari District, Malang Regency.
Kapolres Malang, AKBP Putu Kholis Aryana, confirmed that Sigit Winarno was responsible for the incident. He explained that Sigit had stopped his truck on the shoulder of the road due to overheating, but he did not turn off the engine or apply the handbrake properly.
"Sigit chose not to turn off the engine and used a wooden block to chock the wheel without fully applying the handbrake. He only pulled it 10 times, while the appropriate pull force should be 15 times," Putu explained at a press conference at the Karanglo Toll Road Service Area in Singosari District, on Wednesday (25/12).
The Malang Police have also discovered that the truck had not undergone regular maintenance, as evidenced by the lack of records for checking the radiator temperature and fluid levels since July. Moreover, a technical inspection by a Mitsubishi technician found that the brake fluid was worn out, there was a leak in the brake system cylinder, and the parking brake shoes were worn out.
"This means that the truck has been in poor condition for some time, which also contributed to the cause of the accident," Putu added.
In accordance withflowBeatVideo al 1 Although the truck was not overloaded, the Malang Police are continuing to investigate the incident to determine whether there are other parties who can also be held responsible.
