Republicans converge on Dallas for the first midterm convention of its kind hosted by the Republican National Committee. Running across two nights on September 9 and September 10, the high-profile gathering features keynote addresses from Vice President Vance and President Trump as the party looks to defend its congressional majorities.
Vice President Vance is giving the keynote address Thursday evening at the first-ever GOP midterm convention in Dallas, with President Trump closing out the two-day event after Vance. Trump will appear for both nights of the gathering on Sept. 9 and 10, and deliver remarks on the final night. Vance will address attendees on the first night of the convention.
RNC Chair Joe Gruters described the event in a statement, saying, President Donald Trump and Republicans have delivered historic results for the American people, and every hour of this historic convention will tell that story.
Gruters also noted, “Over two action-packed days, we will take Americans through the defining issues of our Party’s agenda and what is at stake in November. Each hour will have its own theme, its own message, and its own voices, building toward President Donald Trump’s vision for the next chapter of American greatness. This will be unlike any political convention America has seen before.”
According to guidance released by the Republican National Committee (RNC), both nights of the convention will feature a total of 109 items and speakers. The Republican National Committee released the details for the first midterm convention of its kind on Tuesday, set to take place in Dallas and featuring President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance as keynote speakers. The event is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. EDT.
Agenda Highlights From the One Big Beautiful Bill Act to Immigration and Trade
The two-day program tackles a broad slate of policy priorities that the GOP aims to place at the forefront of the midterm elections in an effort to galvanize their MAGA base ahead of midterm elections where the House and Senate majorities are in play. Republicans are slated to cover a number of issues during the two-night event, including addressing what the party notes are the benefits of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, the Trump administration’s efforts to combat fraud, healthcare affordability, immigration, trade and cultural issues.
Other notable speakers today include former White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) and Donald Trump Jr.
Midterm Stakes Amid Polling Pressures and the Proposed Voter Dividend
The convention comes as Trump’s approval ratings decline, potentially having a negative effect on Republicans running in the midterms. A Reuters/Ipsos poll released earlier this month showed Trump’s approval rating at 33 percent nationally. Decision Desk HQ’s polling average shows Democrats leading Republicans by 6 points on the generic ballot.
Trump on Wednesday made a vow to provide $5,000 dividend checks to Americans if the GOP maintains majorities in the House and Senate in November. Vance has already been pressed on the president’s vow, which has received blowback.
