Former President Donald Trump – Wikipedia”>Trump Asserts Rising Crime Threat, Contrary to FBI Data
In his first New Year’s Day social media post, former President Donald Trump cautioned about an escalating crime threat, stating that the criminals entering the U.S. are far worse than those previously present in the country. However, his assertion contradicts recent data from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Trump’s claim comes on the heels of a fatal shooting incident where an alleged suspect was killed in a shootout with police, leaving at least 35 others injured. The suspect’s nationality and identity remain unknown, as local police have not yet released these details.
In his post, Trump further contended that the U.S.’s crime rate has reached an unprecedented high. However, FBI data reveals a significant nationwide decline in violent crime rates. According to the FBI’s Crime Data Explorer, the violent crime rate in the U.S. has been steadily decreasing since 2016, with a 4.8% decrease in 2020 alone.
