Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov Rejects Trump‘s Ukraine Peace Proposals
MOSCOW — Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has dismissed proposals by President-elect Donald Trump to resolve the Ukrainian conflict, deeming them unsatisfactory for Moscow, according to TASS.
As reported by EADaily, Trump’s suggestion involves deploying peacekeepers to Ukraine and postponing its NATO membership for two decades. However, in an interview with Time magazine on December 12, Trump appeared to suggest a "freeze" in combat along the contact line, with Europe taking over responsibility from the U.S. in addressing the conflict with Russia.
"We cannot accept the suggestions attributed to representatives of the incoming U.S. administration to put off Ukraine’s NATO membership for 20 years and to send European and British peacekeeping forces to Ukraine," Lavrov stated.
The Russian FM explained that Moscow cannot agree to these proposals, emphasizing that any peacekeeping mission should be based on the principles of the Minsk agreements and under the auspices of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).
