New Year’s Eve in the Netherlands: A Mix of Celebration and Chaos

In a alarming turn of events, twelve peoplewere rushed to university medical centers (UMC) after sustaining injuries from private fireworks, according to the Dutch Association of Emergency Services (MHZ). The injuries were primarily burns and eye injuries, reminding locals of the dangers associated with handling fireworks without proper precautions.
Hospitals across the country braced for an influx of casualties, with UMC utop Amsterdam even canceling planned patient discharges to free up beds. The Oogziekenhuis in Rotterdam admitted seventeen patients, highlighting the significance of these incidents.
Police Interventions and Arrests
Amidst the revelry, police officers found themselves busy with troublemakers and rule-breakers. In Amsterdam and The Hague, police deployed anti-riot squads to control unruly crowds, while multiple arrests were made for public intoxication and disturbances. The Royaal Marechaussee ( Niederlande’s coast guard) had a busy night, logging numerous cases of fireworks violations and issuing fines.
