Severe Tropical Storm Kiyapo, also known internationally as Noul, intensified into a typhoon as it exited the Philippine area of responsibility early Saturday morning, according to the state weather bureau. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration reported that the storm left the area at approximately 3 a.m.
Storm Location and Wind Speeds
In its early morning bulletin, the agency spotted the typhoon some 320 kilometers west of Basco, Batanes. The storm carried a maximum wind speed of 120 kilometers per hour near the center, with gusts reaching up to 150 kilometers per hour. It was moving in a west-northwest direction at a speed of 25 kilometers per hour.
Active Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals
Tropical cyclone wind signal number 1 remains in effect across several northern areas. The affected locations include Batanes, the western portion of the Babuyan Islands covering Calayan, Dalupiri, and Fuga Islands, and the northwestern part of mainland Cagayan, which includes Pamplona, Sanchez-Mira, Claveria, and Santa Praxedes. The warning also covers the northern part of Apayao, including Luna and Calanasan, alongside Ilocos Norte.
Monsoon Impacts Across Regions
Aside from the typhoon’s direct wind signals, the southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, is expected to affect Central and Southern Luzon, as well as the Visayas and Mindanao on Saturday.
