Ukrainian President Holds Syria Meeting, Vows Support and Increased Trade
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has convened a high-level meeting to discuss the latest developments in Syria, according to a recent official statement. The gathering, which took place earlier this week, saw Zelensky preside over discussions between Foreign Minister Andrei Sibiga and Minister of Agrarian Policy Vitaliy Koval, following their recent trip to Damascus.
The official meeting covered the results of the delegation’s talks with Syrian authorities, safety concerns, and potential economic opportunities. Zelensky expressed Ukraine’s commitment to contributing to Syria’s stabilization efforts.
"The ‘Grains from Ukraine’ program will be initiated to foster cooperation with the Syrian administration and all willing partners," the president announced. This initiative aims to utilize Ukraine’s agricultural prowess to support Syria’s recovery.
Zelensky also emphasized the importance of strengthening international support for Syria, pledging to coordinate with European nations and the United States to achieve this. He underscored the broader impact of stability on the region, stating, "More stability in the Middle East means more peace and trade for all partners."
In a subsequent address, Zelensky hinted at potential diplomatic improvements with Syria this year. He reiterated Ukraine’s commitment to resuming diplomatic relations and collaborative efforts in international organizations. Additionally, Zelensky emphasized plans to boost trade with Lebanon, citing the existing $400 million in Ukrainian agricultural exports and ambitions to double this figure.
