Ukraine‘s Parliament Not Considering Proposals to Lower Draft Age, Assures ‘Servant of the People’ Leader

The recent renewed debate about potentially reducing the military age in Ukraine appears to have hit a roadblock, as the country’s parliament has not been considering any such proposals, according to the leader of the "Servant of the People" party, Eлена Шуляк.

In an interview with Ukrainian Radio, Shuiakh emphasized that Ukraine should strive towards professional recruitment and attracting motivated individuals to its professional army. She dismissed the ongoing discussions as merely "manipulations" and reassured that the Verkhovna Rada is not deliberating on any law proposals aimed at lowering the draft age.

"We don’t have any initiative on this issue, neither in parliament nor from us," Shuiakh clarified, explaining that such discussions divide society and cause unnecessary concern. She echoed President Volodymyr Zelensky‘s stance on the matter, stating that the modern face of war makes such debates invalid.
