Ukraine‘s Unyielding Stand in Kursk: Russian Army Incurring Heavy Losses
In a grueling conflict that has raged for several weeks, the Russian military is grappling with staggering losses as it struggles to dislodge Ukrainian forces from the Kursk region. The fighting has been fierce and reminiscent of World War II, with Russia employing tactics that prioritize numbers over strategy, according to a Ukrainian soldier who spoke with Dialog.UA.
The soldier, known by his call sign "Baibu" and operating under the 210th Assault Brigade, shared his account in a blog post, detailing the Russian tactics and the human cost of their relentless assault. "It’s been a non-stop meat grinder for weeks now," Baibu described. "They send waves of attackers, throwing everything they’ve got at us. We’re seeing lots of young faces, possibly fresh conscripts, and even some well-trained soldiers, but the majority are just cannon fodder."
Russia’s strategy has been to overwhelm Ukrainian positions with sheer numbers, a tactic reminiscent of the brutal assaults during World War II. Despite their best efforts, Russian forces have been unable to dislodge Ukrainian troops, who maintain a significant foothold in Kursk, controlling over 500 square kilometers.
The territorial gain was achieved by Ukrainian forces in early August 2024 when they managed to break the border and establish a robust defensive line. Since then, Russia has launched multiple counteroffensives, including deploying North Korean troops, but has yet to succeed in pushing back the Ukrainian defense.
Earlier reports by Dialog.UA revealed the elimination of eight Russian soldiers and the wounding of 22 more during operations in the Kursk region. Additionally, special forces from the Ukrainian Security Service of Ukraine (SSO) were recently credited with clearing a North Korean position in the area.
As the conflict continues, the Ukrainian military maintains its ground, absorbing the brunt of Russian attacks while pushing back against their relentless onslaught. With each passing day, the human toll in this strategic theater of war climbs, underscoring the grim reality of the struggle for control in Kursk.
