Ukraine’s military intelligence, the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR), has reported the successful neutralization of a senior Russian military officer in an operation that showcases the country’s advanced drone capabilities. According to a report by 24 Канал, citing GUR, the target was Colonel Sergei Melnikov, codename "Kamu", the Chief of Staff of the "Storm-Osetia" battalion, part of the 429th Motorized Rifle Regiment of the Russian Armed Forces.

GUR revealed that Melnikov and his driver were eliminated on December 29, 2024, along the Vasilievka-Tokmak highway in the temporarily occupied territories of the Zaporizhzhia region. The operation was executed by the "Kraken" FPV unit, a special active measures department of the GUR.

A Perfect Storm: Intelligence, Planning, and Execution

The precision strike was a result of meticulous planning and execution. GUR’s active measures division obtained operational intel detailing Melnikov’s movement patterns and used this data to orchestrate an FPV drone ambush. Here’s how it unfolded:

  1. False Alarm: First, the drone operators startled Melnikov’s driver, causing him to swerve and veer off the road.
  2. The Final Blow: With the target vehicle disabled, a disposable drone struck Melnikov directly through the windshield.

In the end, both Russian occupiers were neutralized, dealing a significant blow to enemy morale and capabilities.

More Strikes Against Putin’s Proxy War

This isn’t an isolated incident. Just days earlier, on January 4, GUR announced the destruction of Russian Captain Konstantin Nagayko, suspected of being involved in attacks on civilians in the village of Grusa in the Kharkiv region. Nagayko was severely injured in an explosion in the Russian town of Shuya, Ivanovo region.

In the same week, a Russian propaganda figure, Alexander Martemyanov, perished in a drone strike in the Donetsk region. Martemyanov and six other Russian media workers were traveling along the Donetsk-Gorlovka highway when their vehicle was reportedly targeted by a Ukrainian drone.

These incidents highlight Ukraine’s growing prowess in unconventional warfare and its commitment to disrupting Russian military operations in its ongoing resistance against the Integrated Attack.
