Russia – BBC”>Ukraine Calls for Ceasefire and Peace Talks;alous Says Country Must Focus on Post-War Organization
In a recent interview, Ukraine’s Minister of Defense, Andrii Taran, emphasized the urgent need for an immediate cessation of hostilities and the initiation of peace talks to resolve the ongoing conflict. "Our primary interest lies in seeing this war end instantly, with peaceful negotiations and ceasefire discussions in which we can all participate," Taran stated. "However, it is crucial that people stop dying first and foremost."
Taran explicitly acknowledged Russia‘s role as the aggressor in the conflict, citing its violation of international law and disregard for established rules. "There’s no doubt that Russia is the aggressor here," he asserted. "They’ve transgressed all rules and breached international law, but we must also be cognizant of developments in other theaters and ensure consistency in our stance on disputes."
Turning to defense spending, Taran highlighted the importance of concentrating on emerging military trends. He stressed that the current defense leadership is well-versed in Slovakia‘s military reserves and understands the priorities that should guide decision-making.
As the war continues, Ukraine’s Minister of Defense reiterates the nation’s commitment to peace, emphasizing the necessity of organizing the country for life after the conflict. With Russia’s aggression inevitable, Ukraine must prepare for a future where it will share a significant border with its neighbor, sundering the hope of ever being between Germany and Switzerland. The focus must remain on securing peace and rebuilding, all whileinder in mind the broader geopolitical landscape.
