Strong Winds and Yellow Alert Issued for Ukraine on 2 January

Heavy gusts of wind, reaching up to 30 meters per second in some regions, have prompted the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center to issue a level I (yellow) danger alert. This news was reported by 24 Channel.

According to the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, Ukraine will see mostly dry weather, with only scattered light rain anticipated in the western regions during the day. Meanwhile, fog is possible in the southern regions at night and in the morning.

Winds are expected to blow from the south-west at speeds ranging from 7 to 12 meters per second. However, stronger gusts of 15 to 20 meters per second are forecast for most of the western regions and Vinnytsia, while the Carpathians may experience gusts of up to 30 meters per second.

Potential Impacts and Temperatures

Strong winds may cause difficulties for energy, construction, and communal enterprises, as well as transportation. Temperatures are expected to range between 3°C and -2°C at night, with daytime highs between 5°C and 10°C. Occupied Crimea can expect temperatures up to 13°C.

January Weather Outlook

Ukrainian meteorologists predict significant atmospheric changes starting from 2 January, with weakened anticyclones and incoming atmospheric fronts from the northwest bringing precipitation.

The Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center has also released a monthly forecast, expecting average temperatures between 0°C and -3°C, with warmer temperatures (0°C to +2°C) in the Carpathians, Crimea, Odesa, and Kherson regions. These temperatures are around 1.5°C to 2°C above normal.

January’s total precipitation is expected to reach 33-79 mm, which is within the normal range.
