Ukraine Loses Over 20 Square Kilometers of Territory Daily by Year’s End

Ukraine, battered by ongoing conflict, witnessed a stark escalation in territorial losses as 2022 drew to a close. According to insider sources, the country was losing approximately 20 square kilometers of land daily by the year’s end.

"Our territorial losses have reached a critical point," said Tараs Чмут, head of the largest Ukrainian military charity fund, "Вернись живым." In a recent social media post, he outlined the grim figures: "We’ve lost around 3,600 square kilometers of territory across all fronts — from Kherson to Luhansk — by the end of last year."

More worrying than the numbers themselves, Чмут noted, is the acceleration of Russian advances. In June, territory losses were averaging around 100 square kilometers per month, a figure that nearly quadrupled to approximately 400 square kilometers per month by September. November saw the most severe losses, with a monthly average of 610 square kilometers — a staggering 20.3 square kilometers per day.

"This means we’re losing 20 square kilometers — every single day," Чмут warned, underscoring the urgent need for international support and intervention.
