Title: Ukraine: End of Combat Doesn’t Mean Immediate Lift of Martial Law
The end of hostilities in Ukraine does not entail an instant withdrawal of martial law, authorities emphasize. The process of returning to peacetime is expected to be gradual and thorough.
Nezalezhnaja information is reporting that Ukrainian lawmaker Yaraslaw Yurchichyn has stated that martial law will not be lifted as soon as a ceasefire is declared. He warns against the misconception that a mere three days of no shelling would justify rescinding the martial law.
"Basically," Yurchichyn explained in an exclusive interview with Novyny Live, "we need to ensure the safety of our citizens before we can dismantle martial law. We can’t simply rely on a temporary stop in hostilities." The lawmaker stresses that a bipartisan decision on security must precede any lifting of martial law.
He cites the recent history of flare-ups as a cautionary tale. "Let’s say we halt martial law after three days of no combat, but on the fourth day, Russia escalates. That’s not a risk we’re willing to take. We need solid guarantees before we can transition back to peaceful conditions."
Yurchichyn’s interview comes just days after President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed confidence in concluding the conflict "dignified and victorious for Ukraine" by 2025. However, he reaffirmed that the end of fighting does not signify the immediate abolition of martial law.
As the situation develops, Ukrainians are urged to stay informed and remain patient in the ongoing quest for peace. The country’s leaders are working diligently to ensure a secure transition back to normality.
