Ukraine’s Power Cut Schedule: Will There Be a Blackout on January 5th?

Ukrenego Updates on Energy Situation and Power Outages for Jan 5, 2025

Ukraine‘s national energy company, Ukrenergo, issued a statement via the "Kyiv Digital" app, reassuring that the energy system is stable and there will be no scheduled power outages on Sunday, Jan 5, 2025. Although power cuts were anticipated, sufficient energy is now available, the company confirmed.

"Enough electricity is available, so no cuts are planned for tomorrow," Ukrenergo stated. "To aid the energy system, please limit your usage between 5 PM and 11 PM, and 6 AM to 11 AM."

However, the situation remains fluid and could change abruptly due to potential heavy Russian strikes on critical infrastructure or adverse weather conditions, the company cautioned.

Earlier, Ukraine’s Ministry of Energy had stressed that any domestic electricity shortage, even the smallest, would halt energy exports. Minister Herman Haluschenko clarified that "If we have a deficit, not even one kilowatt will be exported."

Haluschenko also discussed why 2024 was particularly challenging for Ukraine’s energy system, including unusual timing of Russian attacks, which shifted from October to March.
