Ukraine‘s SU-25s Now Carrying French AASM-250 HAMMER: A Technological Shift in the Theater of War
In an increasingly tech-driven warfront, Ukraine’s military has displayed a strategic pivot by integrating French high-precision AASM-250 HAMMER aviation bombs into its military arsenal, a shift particularly notable on their modernized Sukhoi Su-25 fighter-bombers. Footage emerging from the Ukrainian Telegram segment underscores this tactical evolution.
The video clips show a standardized deployment technique: the Su-25 makes a "barrel roll," climbing to height, then releases the bomb in a dive, minimizing its exposure to enemy air defenses. At least one launch was recorded over Konstantinovka, in the DNR region under Ukraine’s control, striking around 15 km from the engagement line.
This integration amplifies the combat capabilities of aging Su-25s, transforming them into platforms for surgical strikes. However, the move appears necessity-driven, given Ukraine’s limited air fleet, with each aircraft now maximizing its strategic value.
