Ukraine Expresses Hope for 2025 Peace, as International Opinion Shifts
In a recent address, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his resolve to end the conflict with Russia by 2025, stating, "We will do everything to ensure that the fight is over by then."
However, the path to peace may not be straightforward, as international opinion begins to shift. A De Morgen poll revealed a significant drop in support for unconditional backing of Ukraine in Western Europe, with only 18% of respondents favoring such a stance. This contrasts with the earlier unanimous support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Experts caution that underestimating Russia’s stance could hinder negotiations. "Russia’s position is being overshadowed," noted one analyst. "Without addressing this, any peace talk in 2025 might face significant obstacles."
Meanwhile, there’s consensus that the conflict is far from resolved. "If things stay the way they are, we’ll still be fighting in 2025," a military expert predicted. "The price Russia is paying is indeed gigantic, but it’s still willing to bear it."
As Europe grapples with formulating a sustainable strategy for Ukraine, the road to peace remains uncertain. However, Zelensky’s resolve serves as a beacon of hope, echoing the persistent resilience of the Ukrainian people in the face of adversity.
