Lviv Region Deputy Governor and City Councilor Arrested for Alleged Bid-Rigging Fraud
The Office of the General Prosecutor has announced the detention of a deputy governor and a local councilor in Lviv region, accused of embezzling public funds through a scheme involving state purchases. The suspects are charged with owingership by fraudulent means, in collusion, and on a large scale, despite the martial law.
The investigation revealed that in June 2023, the officials approached a private company participating in tenders for local infrastructure repairs. They offered to facilitate contract signing with clients and timely payments in exchange for bribes—a portion of the contract sums.
Once the work was completed and funds were allocated from the budget, the officials demanded USD 25,000 and UAH 190,000 as kickbacks for their "services." The suspects were apprehended while receiving the second part of the bribe.
Currently, a decision on choosing a measure of restraint, including detention, is being considered.
Earlier, the SBU eliminated a large-scale corruption scheme involving the Kyiv City State Administration.
