UNICEF Delivers Critical Medical Gear to Lusaka
Essential medical supplies were handed over to Zambia in Lusaka on Thursday, according to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). The shipment is designed to strengthen the country’s preparedness against the Ebola virus and other hemorrhagic fevers.
The donation includes personal protective equipment, infection prevention and control materials, and additional medical gear aimed at bolstering national public health defenses.

During the handover ceremony, UNICEF Representative to Zambia Saja Abdullah stated that the initiative focuses on investing in preparedness before an emergency materializes. According to Abdullah, the effort prioritizes protecting health workers, safeguarding communities, and maintaining essential services for children.

Kennedy Lishimpi, permanent secretary for technical services at Zambia’s Ministry of Health, accepted the donation and noted that it directly enhances the nation’s public health response capacity.
Lishimpi pointed out that the government recognizes the severe disruption infectious disease outbreaks cause, making continuous improvements to surveillance, laboratory capacity, emergency response mechanisms, and clinical preparedness essential.
Strategic Distribution Driven by Risk Assessments
According to the Ministry of Health, the newly acquired supplies will be deployed strategically across priority provinces, districts, healthcare facilities, and points of entry.
