Article:
Russian losses in its illegal war against Ukraine continue to mount, with the latest figures from the Ukrainian military’s General Staff placing the total at 782,510 as of December 27. This staggering number includes over 1650 soldiers killed or wounded in just the past 24 hours.
A revealing conversation, intercepted and published by Ukrainian intelligence, has shed light on the heavy toll the conflict is taking on Russian civilians. The exchange between two men from Belgorod Oblast, a region bordering Ukraine, discussed the grim reality of the war.
"Vanya’s neighbor was buried today," one man said. His companion responded, "Yeah, a lot of our boys are dying. Over 20 have been buried already." The first man then disclosed that he had heard "56,000 unaccounted for, in Rostov," indicating a much higher toll than previously acknowledged.
Ukraine’s military intelligence (GUR) stressed that every war crime committed against the Ukrainian people will be met with righteous retribution.
Thecost of Russia‘s war is not just measured in lives but also in equipment and materials. According to the GUR, Ukraine’s strikes on Russian units have destroyed thousands of pieces of equipment, amounting to billions of dollars in losses.
Analysts from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) have estimated that Russia has lost around 125,800 personnel in the intense offensive operations from September to November 2023, capturing only 2356 square kilometers in exchange. The British Ministry of Defence reports that Russia’s daily losses in November reached a new monthly high of 1523 soldiers.
President Volodymyr Zelensky has previously stated that the total number of Russian casualties has surpassed 750,000, including 198,000 fatalities and over 550,000 injured. Meanwhile, Russian journalists have confirmed the deaths of 83,338 service members since the start of the full-scale invasion, with many of them volunteering for the war effort.
As the conflict drags on, these grim figures serve as a stark reminder of the human cost of Russia’s aggression and the resolve of the Ukrainian people to defend their homeland.
