Dirty Air: Sofia‘s Municipality Advises Schools and Kindergartens to Limit Outdoor Activities
In an effort to combat the deteriorating air quality in Sofia, the city’s municipality has issued an advisory urging schools and kindergartens to curtail outdoor activities. The recent spike in pollution has raised concerns about the health and safety of children and residents alike.
Air pollution levels in the Bulgarian capital have been hovering at hazardous levels, prompting officials to take proactive measures. The Sofia Municipality has called on educational institutions to reduce children’s exposure to the contaminated atmosphere by minimizing outdoor physical education classes and games.
"Given the current state of air pollution in the city, we recommend that schools and kindergartens temporarily limit children’s time spent outdoors," advised a spokesperson for the municipality. "We must prioritize the health of our children and provide them with a safe and clean learning environment."
The advisory is part of a broader campaign to raise awareness about the dangers of air pollution and encourage residents to adopt measures that can help alleviate the problem. Citizens are encouraged to reduce car usage, opt for public transportation, and support initiatives that promote cleaner energy sources.
Parents and guardians are also advised to take precautions to protect their children’s health. This includes monitoring air quality reports, limiting children’s outdoor exposure during peak pollution hours, and ensuring they wear appropriate respiratory masks when venturing outside.
