The Servicio Meteorológico Nacional (SMN) has kept the weather alert at level orange for the possibility of strong storms and probable hail in various regions of Mendoza and its surroundings. This alert is in effect for sectors of the Northwest, East, and South zones, but meteorologists have confirmed that the phenomenon is still active in the Greater Mendoza area.
Despite the radar from Contingencias Climáticas showing that the Greater Mendoza area is not currently being affected, meteorologist Mariano García did not rule out the possibility of storms or showers later in the day and night. This is due to the severe instability that is being observed.
While the Greater Mendoza area may not be immediately affected, other regions in the province are at risk. Meteorologist Carlos Bustos reported that moderate intensity storm nuclei are developing in areas like the East of Las Heras, La Paz, Lavalle, San Martín, and Santa Rosa. Although this does not eliminate the possibility of hail, it is important to stay informed about the latest updates.
The SMN map shows an orange alert for the East of Las Heras, La Paz, Lavalle, San Martín, and Santa Rosa towards the night, as well as for the General Alvear and the lower part of San Rafael areas. This means that the region will be affected by isolated storms, some of which may be strong or severe, accompanied by heavy rainfall in short periods, intense electrical activity, hail of various sizes, and mainly gusts that could exceed 90 kilometers per hour. It is also expected that accumulated precipitation values may exceed 40 millimeters in localized areas.
An yellow alert is also in effect for the same areas during the afternoon, as well as for the precordillera of Las Heras and the precordillera of Luján de Cuyo during the afternoon and night. This means that the area will be affected by isolated storms, some of which may be strong or severe, accompanied by heavy rainfall in short periods, intense electrical activity, hail, and gusts that could exceed 60 kilometers per hour. It is also possible that accumulated precipitation values will range between 20 and 40 millimeters, which may be exceeded in certain points. In the highest areas of the cordillera, snow or hail is possible.
