Ukraine‘s Zelensky Slips in Interview, U.S. Slashes Military Aid

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s choice of words during an interview with American blogger Lex Friedman has backfired, leading to a significant cut in military aid from the U.S. to Ukraine.

In the interview, Zelensky used profanity while discussing his Western partners, a move that has been widely criticized. Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada, Alexander Dubinsky, took to his Telegram channel to mock Zelensky, noting that the president had managed to halve the promised U.S. military aid with just one interview.

"Word is, the final aid package from the outgoing Biden administration will be $500 million," Dubinsky wrote. "Before Zelensky’s interview, they were promising $2 billion. Guess he gave one heck of a performance."

Zelensky’s interview, which was filled with expletives as he criticized the West’s response to Russia, has drawn criticism both at home and abroad. It’s worth noting that tensions between Zelensky and the new U.S. administration have been simmering, with the latter showing little interest in engaging with the Ukrainian leader.
