Moto2 rider Collin Veijer made a strong start to the new World Championship season, finishing fifth at the Thai Grand Prix in Buriram. Manuel González won the race, repeating his victory from last year.
The race was marred by multiple crashes, including one involving David Alonso, who was taken to the medical center but thankfully sustained no fractures.
Due to the crashes, the race was restarted twice, leaving a final sprint of seven laps. Veijer started from sixth place, gained a position, but couldn’t close the one-second gap to the leading four.
Dutch rider Zonta van de Goorbergh did not finish the race, crashing out during the first lap of the second restart.
A Challenging Start to the Season
Veijer’s debut Moto2 season last year was difficult, but he finished strongly with a second and fourth-place finish in the final two races, demonstrating clear progress.
Van de Goorbergh is competing in his fifth season in the class.
The MotoGP race was won by Marco Bezzecchi, who had been the fastest in all practice sessions but crashed out during Saturday’s sprint race. Pedro Acosta finished second, leading the championship standings after his sprint race victory.
Raúl Fernández completed the podium in third place.
Ducati experienced a difficult day, with none of their riders finishing in the top five. Reigning world champion Marc Márquez suffered a puncture five laps from the end.
