Horrors of New Year’s Day: Russian Strike in Kherson Leaves Volunteer Dead, Elderly Woman Injured
In a grim start to the New Year, Russian forces targeted Kherson’s Dnieper district around 10:30 AM, leaving a young volunteer dead and an elderly woman wounded, local authorities report.
Kherson’s military administration chief, Roman Mrochko, revealed that the young man, aged just 23, was struck by shrapnel while inside a building. His injuries were fatal. The victim, a volunteer who had been instrumental in rebuilding the community, has been hailed as a hero.
"Our volunteer… constantly helped us in restoring our community. We won’t forgive this," reads the statement.
The attack was part of a series of early morning strikes on the city on New Year’s Day. A 76-year-old woman was also injured, suffering a mine-inflicted wound, concussion, and shrapnel injuries.
In a follow-up announcement at 12:38 PM, Mrochko warned residents of renewed shelling in the Dnieper district and urged them to take shelter.
Details are still emerging, with the latest information coming from 24 Channel, citing Roman Mrochko.
