Heavy rain across Wales on Sunday and Monday has triggered four weather warnings, including an amber “possible risk to life” alert, as saturated ground raises the likelihood of flooding and transport disruption.
The Met Office issued separate warnings for north, mid and south Wales after recent flooding from Storm Bram and “devastating” floods in Monmouth caused by Storm Claudia. Natural Resources Wales (NRW) warned residents in south Wales to prepare for potentially significant overnight flooding.
At present there are eight flood warnings and 41 flood alerts active across the country.

- An amber warning for rain covers much of south Wales from Pembrokeshire to Newport until 21:00 on Monday.
- A yellow warning spans Blaenau Gwent, Bridgend, Caerphilly, Cardiff, Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Merthyr Tydfil, Neath Port Talbot, Pembrokeshire, Powys, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Swansea and the Vale of Glamorgan throughout Monday.
- A second yellow warning applies to Ceredigion, Conwy, Denbighshire, Gwynedd and Powys from 18:00 on Sunday until 15:00 on Monday.
- A further yellow warning covers Flintshire and Wrexham from 18:00 on Sunday until midnight on Monday.
The Met Office warned that recent wet weather has left soils saturated, increasing the chance of impacts, and noted a specific flood risk for Dolgellau in Gwynedd.
Transport has already been affected: train services between Llandudno Junction and Blaenau Ffestiniog were cancelled on Monday morning, with disruptions expected to last the day. Police have also advised motorists to avoid the A487 in Nasareth, Gwynedd, due to flooding.
NRW is working with the Flood Forecasting Centre, emergency responders and local authorities to monitor forecasts and coordinate any required actions. Sally Davies, NRW’s duty tactical manager, emphasized the need for residents to act now, recommending flood kits, moving valuables to higher ground and securing vehicles.
