Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors have agreed to a two-year, $116 million contract extension that keeps the four-time NBA champion tied to the franchise through the 2028-29 season, league sources confirmed on Friday, September 26, 2026.
The deal locks in the historic partnership as Curry heads into his 18th NBA season. ESPN’s Shams Charania first reported the agreement on a reported 2-year, $116 million extension that takes the star guard through his 20th year with Golden State. The contract includes a player option for the final 2028-29 season according to league sources.
Stephen Curry Accepts a Pay Cut and Financial Security
Instead of taking the full maximum salary, the 38-year-old guard chose a slight discount that leaves roughly $20 million on the table.
Curry is currently playing on an expiring $62.6 million contract. Under the new agreement, his salary will dip to $55.7 million for the 2027-28 season, followed by a $60.2 million player option for 2028-29.
Curry mentioned that his injury history influenced the contract terms, allowing the team to manage cap space while securing his future with the Warriors.

If Curry plays out the entirety of his new deal through the 2028-29 campaign, he will reach his 20th NBA season—all with the Warriors. That milestone places him in elite company alongside Dirk Nowitzki in Dallas, Kobe Bryant with the Los Angeles Lakers, and Udonis Haslem in Miami as the only players in league history to spend 20 or more seasons with a single franchise.

Curry enters the season looking to bounce back from an injury-shortened 2025-26 campaign where he missed time due to a nagging right knee issue, limiting him to 43 games while still averaging 26.6 points and 4.7 assists.
