Heads Up: Donald Trump – Wikipedia”>Trump‘s Second United States presidential inauguration – Wikipedia”>Inauguration Approaching; Sheinbaum Unconcerned About Invitation
Just nine days shy of U.S. President Donald Trump’s second inauguration, preparations are in full swing for the ceremony scheduled on Monday, January 20th. While invitations have been extended to several world leaders, Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum has not received a personal invite but remains unfazed.
In a Thursday 9th January press conference, Sheinbaum reiterated that previous U.S. presidential inaugurations haven’t necessarily seen invitations extended to sitting heads of state. However, this time around, Trump has indeed invited several high-profile guests.
Among the confirmed attendees are Argentina’s President Javier Milei, Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele. Notably, earlier in December, news outlets reported that Trump had invited Chinese President Xi Jinping, although his attendance is considered unlikely amidst the ongoing U.S.-China trade disputes.
When pressed about a possible invitation, Sheinbaum stayed composed. "I don’t have a problem if Trump chooses not to invite me to his inauguration," she said, further elaborating that she expects a respectful relationship with the U.S. to carry on, as was the case during Trump’s tenure with her predecessor, Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
