Wiltshire teen with cerebral palsy joins 2026 BBC Children in Need choir

Izzy Lands 2026 BBC Children in Need Choir Spot for National Broadcast

Fourteen-year-old Izzy from West Lavington in Wiltshire has been selected to perform in the 2026 BBC Children in Need Choir, bbc.com reported. Known by family and friends as the happiest person in the world, the teenager navigates daily life with cerebral palsy and a spinal condition that can leave him fatigued and in pain.

Born nine weeks premature, Izzy spent his first month at Salisbury District Hospital. Early on, he could not sit, crawl, or walk, leading to a cerebral palsy diagnosis at age two and a half. He also lives with a spinal issue where his bones rub together, and he walks with splints on his lower legs to help with balance.

Music Provides Escape From Chronic Pain and Fatigue

Despite physical struggles that leave him unable to get around on difficult days, Izzy finds relief in music. Music takes me to a different place, into how the music is described and the places they are – that’s where I’m escaping to, he said according to bbc.com. When he picks up a guitar or starts singing, he says he can escape into another world.

His mother, Rachael, told bbc.com that her son just loves life and makes the best of everything. She added that the upcoming television performance feels like a crazy, crazy dream come true. Izzy noted that the excitement of joining the broadcast outweighs any nerves.

Volunteer Work at West Lavington Youth Club

Outside of his music, Izzy volunteers to help younger children at the West Lavington Youth Club, where he has attended for five years and which has previously received funding from Children in Need. Youth club manager Josh Newton told bbc.com that the teenager brings immense energy to the group and doesn’t need to be asked to help, he just does.

Named after Isambard Kingdom Brunel, Izzy believes his constant positivity improves the moods of those around him. Yes it’s true, I’m known for always smiling. I do things that are happy. I think it makes other people feel better too, he said, per bbc.com.
