Daniel Soave, 39, of Portland Row, Dublin 1, has appeared before the Dublin District Court regarding the incident. He is accused of assault causing harm to a woman and related public order offenses. This proves alleged that Mr. Soave pushed two female canvassers and then “punched one of the lady canvassers to the face, knocking her to the ground.”
The injured woman was brought to the hospital, but did not seek further medical treatment, according to a garda sergeant’s testimony in court. Footage of the incident reportedly went viral online.
Court Proceedings and Bail Conditions
Mr. Soave was arrested and detained at Store Street Garda Station. When initially charged, he had no reply to the public order offenses, but stated, “What’s that all about? Complete lies, I never pushed anybody,” in response to the assault charge.
Judge Michele Finan accepted jurisdiction over the case, noting the DPP deemed it suitable for the District Court. Mr. Soave’s solicitor, Yvonne Bambury, requested disclosure of prosecution evidence, which was granted. He was remanded on continuing bail and is scheduled to appear again in July.
