Title: Peaceful Resolution in Surabaya-Gresik Toll Road Crash
A morning incident on the Surabaya-Gresik Toll Road (KM 5.600) ended amicably on Saturday, December 28, 2024, as both parties involved in the Wuling Alvez car-bus collision decided to settle the matter privately. The bus, which hit the car and fled the scene, was later held accountable for the damages.
"Both parties have agreed to settle this matter privately, opting for restorative justice, with compensations for repair and material costs," stated AKBP Arif Fazlurrahman, Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Surabaya Police, in a brief message to Radio Suara Surabaya on Saturday night.
Rizki Baihaqi, the owner of the Wuling Alvez car (Nopol W 1108 DD) that was hit by the blue bus, confirmed the private settlement. "Alhamdulillah, it’s all settled privately. The culprit has already compensated for the material damages," he said while on air at Radio Suara Surabaya.
The incident occurred around 07:10 WIB at KM 5600, post-Tandes Toll Gate, on the Surabaya-bound lane towards Gresik. A video sent by Rizki showed the bus driving at constant speed in the middle lane before suddenly cutting into the right lane and colliding with his car, causing significant damage to the left side, front door, and back door, as well as a punctured right front tire before fleeing the scene.
Following the incident, Rizki contacted the PO Bus and demanded accountability. Both parties then decided to involve the police to solve the matter privately. Rizki recounted, "The driver said he didn’t see my car in his mirror. I don’t know if it was a blind spot or not, but the driver admitted he didn’t see me."
Though the bus driver initially claimed not to have seen Rizki’s car, both parties eventually agreed to a private settlement, with the bus company compensating for the damages. This incident serves as a reminder for all drivers to stay alert and cautious to prevent such accidents from happening.
