Mülheim an der Ruhr is gearing up to host the YONEX German Open Badminton Championships from February 24th to March 1st, 2026, at the Westenergie Sporthalle. The German Badminton Association (DBV) has secured nine starting places – five in the main field and four in qualification – for its players at this significant tournament.
German Players in Action: Singles
Three-time German champion Matthias Kicklitz will compete in the men’s singles main field, facing Kalle Koljonen of Finland in the first round. Kian-Yu Oei will participate in the qualification rounds.
Unfortunately, Yvonne Li, a seven-time German champion in women’s singles, will be unable to participate due to health concerns, specifically a wrist injury and a recent infection. DBV head coach Hannes Käsbauer stated the tournament comes “a tick too early” for her recovery.

Bjarne Geiss and Jones Jansen will represent Germany in the men’s doubles main field. Malik Bourakkadi/Kenneth Neumann and Jonathan Dresp/Simon Krax, the newly crowned German champions, will begin their YONEX German Open journey in the qualification rounds.
Selin Hübsch and Amelie Lehmann, the current German vice-champions in women’s doubles, have secured a spot in the main tournament. They will face a Taiwanese pair, Chen Su Yu and Lee Yu-Hsuan.

The German mixed doubles team of Marvin Seidel and Thuc Nguyen will not be competing due to a foot injury sustained by Thuc Nguyen. However, Simon Krax/Amelie Lehmann and Malik Bourakkadi/Leona Michalski will represent Germany in the main field.

Gabriela Stoeva and Stefani Stoeva of Bulgaria, the reigning European champions, are the top seeds in women’s doubles. Feng Yan Zhe and Huang Dong Ping of China are the top seeds in mixed doubles.
