Title: Renowned Artist Yos Suprapto Returns to Galeri Nasional Indonesia, Demands Access to His Locked Exhibition

In an unexpected turn of events, celebrated artist Yos Suprapto visited the Galeri Nasional Indonesia (GNI) today, vowing to retrieve his artwork after the opening of his exhibition was abruptly postponed. The incident has sparked a heated discussion among art enthusiasts and critics alike.

Mediamen and curious onlookers gathered at the Galeri Nasional Indonesia since as early as 11:00 AM, anticipating the artist’s arrival. However, Suprapto didn’t make an appearance until 2:00 PM (WIB). As he arrived, he was promptly swarmed by media personnel for interviews.

In a surprising statement, Suprapto declared, "I’ve decided to take back my artwork from the Galeri Nasional Indonesia." He expressed his frustration, stating, "I’m currently waiting for the Acting Director, Jarot Mahendra, who’s supposedly in a meeting at Senayan. If I have to wait much longer, I’ll have no choice but to approach the guards to request the keys myself."

Upon reaching the guard post, Suprapto was repeatedly denied access to the exhibition area in Gedung A, despite his repeated attempts to contact Acting Director Jarot Mahendra. Exasperated, Suprapto lamented, "They don’t respect me as a human being. It’s as if they’re not even trying to humanize the situation."

Previously, on Saturday, December 21, Suprapto held a press conference at LBH Jakarta, accompanied by his legal counsel. He hinted at taking legal action if the situation remains unresolved, stating, "[…] if negotiations fail, and the public can’t access my exhibition, or if even I, as the artist, am denied entry, I will explore legal options to gain access to the exhibition space."

The art community eagerly awaits further developments in this ongoing saga. As of now, neither the Galeri Nasional Indonesia nor Acting Director Jarot Mahendra has issued any official statements regarding the incident.
